Fondazione MAST, Bologna, 2021
Photographer, historian, critic, editor… Ando Gilardi is one of the most eclectic and original figures in the history of Italian photography. The National Historical Photo Library, which he founded in 1959, hosts approximately 500,000 images and represents a pioneering archive on the uses and social functions of photography.
The exhibition, in the headquarters of the Mast Foundation, showcases a selection of the numerous materials produced and collected by Gilardi.
The exhibition is the mise en scène of an archive. The ambition is to transform the images on display into scientific material that becomes the subject of continuous research. The installation consists in the creation of large exhibition surfaces that are uniformly lit and in which all the images are exhibited according to a serial criterion.
