ALICANTO

FontanaArte, 2021

Alicanto is a sculptural lamp that draws its name and spirit from the mythical Chilean bird said to feed on gold and silver—its brilliance keeping it grounded, unable to fly. This duality between radiance and rootedness becomes the central metaphor for the lamp’s design.

Characterized by a graceful forward-leaning arc, Alicanto embodies a dynamic tension: a poised movement toward light, as if preparing to leap or offer illumination. The slightly tilted support rod, the asymmetrical arch that seems to trace the path of a soaring flight, and the luminous sphere delicately resting on the structure—all contribute to a gesture that feels both zoomorphic and poetic.

The stance of the lamp, with its tripod-like legs gently spread like an easel, enhances its stability while reinforcing a sense of anticipation and readiness. The light does not simply shine—it is presented, handed out, extending forward as if in an act of giving.

Alicanto is more than a functional object; it is a narrative form, a still frame of motion and meaning—where myth, material, and light converge into a quiet yet expressive presence in space.
