BARN STAIR
Connecticut,
2021
Within the
untouched landscape of Connecticut, the renovation of an original 1840 barn
gave chance to a contemporary reinterpretation of an historical architecture.
The dialogue between the wooden framework of the barn and a new metal staircase
is the main theme of the intervention.
The spiral
staircase lays on a squared footprint. A thin steel structure allows a
homogeneous distribution of forces within the framework. Thus giving birth to
an original structural hierarchy for a spiral layout: all the horizontal and
vertical elements has the same section, including the central pole. Meeting
local regulations, the staircase is characterised by a very tight structural
pace. As a counterpart to this, a linear wooden handrail brings a continuous
soft movement to the architectural promenade.
